“Imagine All the People: Music and American Culture” Coming to AFI Silver Spring! Silver Spring, MD - 31 May 2019
On May 31st, 2019 at the AFI Silver Spring Theater, the documentary “Imagine All the People” will be shown to a single audience. The documentary, which focuses on the importance of music in the American culture, was created by Camel Productions, a production group composed of 7 eighth grade students. This documentary is the culmination of every skill learned in the three years spent at the Humanities and Communications Magnet, and is to be presented in front of every 8th grade student in the program as well as the teachers and parents of said students. The members of this group are Elizabeth Cooke, Agata Czaja, Charlotte Foster, Joanna Li, Eileen Luo, Evelyn Shue and Gwen Taylor. To contact this production group, email [email protected] or call (301)-650-6650. To create their documentaries, the 8th grade students in the Humanities and Communications Magnet took a 5-day trip to New York. Camel Productions visited the Imagine mosaic, located in Strawberry Fields, on October 9th, 2018 in order to record the celebrations of the 39th anniversary of the birth of John Lennon. From projects such as the Greekfest animations to the C-SPAN documentaries, we have gathered and honed the skills required for the creation of this documentary. In order to create this documentary, we first needed to locate interviewees. Among our interviewees were Bob Gruen and Ian Mackaye, two prominent figures the music world. Bob Gruen is the rock photographer who took the famous photograph of John Lennon wearing an “I Love New York” shirt in front of the New York skyline. Ian Mackaye is a punk vocalist who was formerly a part of the band Fugazi, which had a significant impact on the punk world of the 1980s. Using the transcripts of our interviews, we then created the director's script, which included plans for our music, voiceover, A- Roll, and B-Roll. Following this plan, we created the rough cut, the fine cut, and finally, the picture lock for this documentary.
